Ice Climbing

Ice climbing is a combination of both rock skills and balls. It is probably the most intriguing form of climbing there is, due to the surreal environment and the design of the equipment.

Overview

Waterfall ice conditions are generally good from December to March in the surrounding valleys. The Valais in Switzerland, Chamonix valley in France and the Val d’Aosta in Italy all have a great selection of ice climbs.

Ice climbing is not as impossible as it looks, by the end of the first day one can already have a good understanding of the movements necessary.

Learning to ice climb involves all kinds of techniques, including cramponing, ice tool placement/removal, ice screw placement and anchor building, as well as rope management skills.
